REHABILITATION MEDICINE DEPARTMENT
Overview
The Rehabilitation Medicine Department consists of two units: Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. These units cater to both outpatients and inpatients, averaging 80 patients daily and 2000 monthly. The Physiotherapy Unit focuses on human function and movement, assessing and managing various conditions like stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy, while conducting educational programs and research. The Occupational Therapy Unit promotes health through self-care, work, and play activities, addressing conditions such as cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, and schizophrenia, and providing physical and psychological assessments, treatment plans, and caregiver education. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and staffed by experienced professionals, making it a leading center in Tanzania.
The department has got two (2) units:
- Physiotherapy unit
- Occupational therapy unit
Both units manage to see outpatient department and inpatient department cases with an average number of 80 patients per day and 2000 patients per month.
PHYSIOTHERAPY UNIT
Is a medical health care profession, concerned with human function and movement and maximizing physical potential.
- We asses and manage different physiotherapy cases.
- Conducting educational programs for both outpatient and inpatient services.
- Identifying predisposing factors to disabilities at home, schools and working environments.
- Contributing ideas to primary and secondary prevention of functional disabilities.
- Conducting training and awareness of primary and secondary prevention of functional impairment of disabilities to medical staff and community.
- Conducting Researches
- Participate in Prevention of infection control

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY UNIT
Is the profession that use self care, work and play activities to promote and maintain health, prevent disability, increase independent function and enhance development.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY MAIN ACTIVITIES
- Conducting physical and developing psychological assessment to the client and developing treatment plan
- Prepare the client to resume to their optimal functional abilities (productivity) works
- Educate the care givers and family members on patient’s care and home program.
- Evaluating patient’s physical and mental health conditions.
- Advice on adaptive equipment
