THE DEPARTMENT OF OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY (ENT)
The ENT Department comprises five units: Rhinology, Otology, Head and Neck Surgery, Audiology, and Speech and Language Therapy. The Rhinology unit uses modern endoscopic facilities to treat nose and sinus diseases, while the Otology unit utilizes advanced microscopy for ear and mastoid conditions. The Head and Neck unit handles diseases of the throat and salivary glands, Audiology addresses hearing and balance disorders, and the Speech and Language Therapy unit focuses on speech disorders, working closely with MNH Upanga staff.
The department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) has a total of 5 units namely:
- Rhinology
- Otology
- Head and neck surgery
- Audiology
- Speech and Language Therapy
Rhinology is the unit which is well established with modern endoscopic facilities for diagnosis and operations. It deals with diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses which could be congenital, acquired and infectious.
Otology unit is well established with modern microscopy facilities for diagnosis and operations. It deals with diseases of the ear and mastoid region.
Head and neck unit treats diseases of the neck and diseases involving different parts of throat like larynx, oropharynx, and hypopharynx and salivary glands. Required equipment for establishing diagnosis and operations are available.
Audiology unit deals with patients suffering from hearing impairment and balance. It is well furnished with equipment for hearing assessment, evaluation of patients with balance problem and hearing aids fitting and services.
Speech and Language Therapy Unit is concerned with patients suffering from speech disorders including children with delayed speech, post cochlear implants and post stroke adults. It is functioning in collaboration with staff from MNH Upanga.
